Itinerary

Arrive in Phoenix, collect hire car at airport and drive to downtown Phoenix for overnight stay at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Scottsdale.

Time to hit the road! Take the 257km drive from Phoenix to Benson. Visit Kartchner Caverns State Park. Experience a stunning limestone cave in Southeastern Arizona that boasts world-class features. This “live” cave, discovered in 1974, is host to a wide variety of unique minerals and formations. Stop for lunch in Benson at the Horseshoe Cafe, a staple for diner food and desserts since 1936 (addition cost). After lunch, depart for the Amerind Museum in Dragoon, AZ which is only 25km away. Museum entry is an additional USD$12 per person, The Museum’s exhibitions tell the story of America’s first peoples from Alaska to South America and from the last Ice Age to the present. Depart Amerind in the early afternoon and head towards Willcox where you’ll be stopping for the night. Suggested options to visit, Keeling-Schafer Tasting Room which produces estate-grown and bottled Rhone-styled wine on their 21 acres or visit t Carlson Creek Winery Tasting Room in Willcox, a family-owned vineyard and winery that has 160 acres of vines.

This morning head out early before the heat of the day and explore the Chiricahua National Monument, where a “Wonderland of Rocks” is waiting. The 8-mile paved scenic drive and 17-miles of day-use hiking trails provide opportunities to discover the beauty, natural sounds, and inhabitants of this 11,985- acre site. See beautiful Ryolite formations, lots of wildlife and the Faraway Ranch. Next stop, Bisbee and only 115km away. Experience the Queen Mine Tour and explore one of the oldest copper mines in Arizona. The tour guides, who are former miners, show how turn-of[1]the-century mines were operated. The final stop for the day will be at Sierra Vista for your overnight accommodation

In the morning, hike Ramsey Canyon, a 280-acre National Natural Landmark bestowed to The Nature Conservancy in 1975. The canyon’s unique interplay of geology, biology, topography, and climate make it a unique habitat for a variety of plant and animal life with over 170 varieties of birds, including 14 species of hummingbirds. After your hike, drive from Sierra Vista to Tombstone. Head to the O.K. Corral. See Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday in daily reenactments with life-sized figures of the legendary 1881 gun battle. On the way from Tombstone to Tucson, make a stop at Kief-Joshua Vineyards for wine tasting. Kief-Joshua Vineyards is a small family business with 20 acres in beautiful Elgin and 40 acres in Willcox Wine Country. Their Elgin tasting room is open daily and is situated right in the middle of what is known as “winery row.” 

Day in Tucson, Visit Mission Garden. Mission Garden is a re-creation of the Spanish Colonial walled garden that was part of Tucson’s historic San Agustin Mission. Head to Barrio Bread, a true neighborhood bakery that showcases the art and science of Don Guerra’s passion for baking and his commitment to community or visit the Pima Air and Space Museum, one of the largest aviation and space museums in the world! Featuring over 300 historical aircrafts, from a Wright Flyer to a 787 Dreamliner.

Today you will be taking the 2 hour journey along Highway 10 back to Phoenix, return hire car to Phoenix International Airport.
